Sistema.bio has been nominated for the prestigious Ashden Awards for promoting the use of clean cooking gas.

Ashden Awards were established in 2001 and are globally recognised as a mark of excellence in the field of green energy.

Ten winning energy innovators will be named in July at awards ceremony in London during the first London Climate Action Week

Technologies such as biogas, gasifier stoves, biomass pellets and liquified petroleum gas are all on the longlist – as well as a range of business and customer finance models.

"The Ashden Awards are in their 18th year and I never fail to be enormously impressed and inspired by the way people around the globe are embracing the very latest technical advances and trends in a bid to bring clean energy to all. This year’s shortlisted organisations are an incredibly exciting group, each helping us in different ways to transition to a low carbon world that brings huge environmental, health and economic benefits,” said Sarah Butler Sloss, Ashden’s Founder Director.

Last year on 6th December 2018 Sistema.bio was awarded during the Renewable Energy Awards for its achievements and involvement in promoting adoption of clean cooking gas in Kenya. This was during the event that was hosted by Renewable Energy Working Group in Mombasa.

Several other companies participated in the event that was attended by entrepreneurs, government officials, journalists and members of the public.

A Kenyan entrepreneur who won last year’s Changemakers Award, Mr. Cedrick Todwell is also the Global Commercial Director of Sistema.bio. This was during the 2018 Tropics Gala Dinner held on Saturday, October 20, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Todwell, 34, was given the award for his active role in championing the use of renewable bio energy in Africa. He had teamed up with other partners to promote the use of biogas and organic fertiliser.

The company has offered employment to 60 Kenyans who serve as technicians, distributors or agents in different parts of the country.

Todwell together with Sistema.Bio founder Alex Eaton, has within a year supplied biogas digesters to over 2,000 farmers in Eldoret, Nairobi, Meru, Kericho and Kiambu.

The Sistema technology includes anaerobic reactor, inlet of 200L, fertiliser outlet and storage, cook stove, 35 metres gas line, H2S filter, pressure relief valve, two water tramps, and protective geotextile.

The new bio digester is an airtight hybrid reactor that receives daily waste from the farm and mixes with water. Upon fermentation, biogas is produced and conveyed through pipes to the points of use. At the other end of the system comes organic fertiliser.
