MPs urged to back proposed tea law

Tea farmers in North Rift want legislators from tea-growing belts to lobby for the passage of the proposed industry regulations.

They said most clauses in The Crops (Tea Industry) Regulations 2020 were favourable to both small- and large-scale producers.

They said if passed, the laws would help increase tea production. Led by Gideon Too and Joseph Lagat, both tea growers in Nandi County, the farmers said the provisions would transform the sub-sector.

Mr Too, a former Kenya Tea Growers Association chief executive officer, said the proposals would enhance green leaf production, processing, packaging and exporting and make it more profitable
